Petitioning for a New Holiday: “69er Day” on September 6th

The Concept Behind “69er Day”

In addition to traditional and quirky holidays already on the calendar, Wild Secrets is the pushing to have September 6th recognized as Mutual Pleasure Day – or colloquially “69er Day” in Australia. This proposed holiday is designed to celebrate equality, mutual pleasure, and intimacy in relationships, focusing on the importance of balance, reciprocity, and open communication.

“69er Day” is rooted in the idea of mutual satisfaction, not just in a physical sense, but in all aspects of relationships—emotional, mental, and social. The name, of course, is a playful nod to a popular intimate position that symbolizes mutual giving and receiving. The holiday aims to emphasize the significance of mutual pleasure and satisfaction, encouraging couples and individuals to prioritize their partner’s happiness and well-being alongside their own.

Supporters of “69er Day” believe that such a celebration can promote healthy, fulfilling relationships by fostering open conversations about intimacy, consent, and the importance of ensuring that both partners’ needs are met. This holiday could serve as a fun, light-hearted opportunity to address serious topics related to relationship dynamics in a more approachable and engaging way.

Once we get to 500 signatures we’ll start holding some events on that day each year for our customers and push MP’s to make this national.

How Would “69er Day” Be Celebrated more broadly?

If “69er Day” were to gain official recognition, there are countless creative and meaningful ways it could be celebrated:

  • Workshops and Seminars: Communities and educational institutions could host workshops on topics such as intimacy, communication, and relationship health, helping individuals and couples learn new ways to enhance mutual satisfaction in their relationships.
  • Date Night Specials: Restaurants, spas, and entertainment venues could offer special deals for couples, encouraging them to spend quality time together and engage in activities that promote closeness and enjoyment.
  • Social Media Campaigns: The campaign could launch online challenges or content sharing events that encourage people to share how they prioritize mutual pleasure in their relationships, using a dedicated hashtag to foster a sense of community and participation.
  • Promotional Events: Businesses could collaborate on promotions or events that align with the theme of “69er Day,” such as special offers on couples’ experiences, intimate products, or wellness services focused on relationship enhancement.
  • Public Awareness Campaigns: Media outlets could feature stories, expert advice, and testimonials that highlight the importance of mutual pleasure and intimacy, helping to normalize conversations about these topics in a respectful and educational manner.

Seems farfetched? Don’t forget “Talk Like a Pirate Day”

“Talk Like a Pirate Day,” celebrated every year on September 19th, is one of the most well-known and beloved quirky holidays. It all began in 1995 when two friends, John Baur and Mark Summers, were playing racquetball in Albany, Oregon. In the middle of the game, for reasons they couldn’t quite explain, they started to encourage each other using pirate slang. “Arrr!” and “Ahoy, matey!” flew across the court, and before they knew it, they were fully immersed in pirate speak. The experience was so entertaining that they decided the world needed a day dedicated to speaking like pirates.

Why September 19th? Summers chose the date because it was his ex-wife’s birthday, making it an easy date to remember. The idea of “Talk Like a Pirate Day” might have remained a private joke between two friends had it not been for humour columnist Dave Barry. In 2002, Barry wrote a syndicated column about the holiday, and the rest, as they say, is history. The column catapulted the event into the public eye, leading to a wave of pirate-themed parties, events, and social media posts every September 19th. What began as a spontaneous, light-hearted joke has become an international sensation, celebrated with enthusiasm around the world.

Moving Forward: Bringing “69er Day” to Life

We remain optimistic that the Australian government will consider the proposal and recognize the importance of a day dedicated to mutual pleasure and relationship equality. The holiday would not only add a fun, cheeky celebration to the calendar but also serve as a reminder of the value of balanced and mutually satisfying relationships.

Even if “69er Day” does not receive official recognition immediately, the campaign itself serves as a conversation starter, encouraging people to think about the dynamics of their relationships and the importance of mutual satisfaction. Advocates of “69er Day” encourage everyone to embody the spirit of the holiday in their daily lives, fostering a culture where equality, mutual respect, and shared joy are prioritized in all forms of relationships.

Whether or not “69er Day” becomes a national holiday, the effort behind it underscores a meaningful message: that joy, pleasure, and connection are enhanced when shared equally, and that every relationship benefits from a focus on mutual care and understanding.
